double eyelids

Create a dewy eye look and enhance your facial charm: A deep dive into which double eyelid surgery is right for you.

Monolids, uneven double eyelids, or hooded eyelids are common problems in Asians. Double eyelid surgery is a popular option to make the eyes appear larger and brighter, and greatly simplifies makeup application.

Which type of double eyelid surgery is best for you?

Before choosing a technique, let's look at which style suits your eye shape:

  • Korean Style (Natural Look): Emphasizes small, natural-looking eyelids that appear as if they were born with them. Suitable for those with slender faces.

  • Glamorous Look: Emphasizes well-defined, beautifully curved eyelids that complement the brow bone. Suitable for those who like full-face makeup or want a more edgy and sophisticated look.

  • Sweet Style (Doll Eyes): Emphasizes round, bright eyes that make you look younger.

In-depth technique: Short cut vs. long cut.

In double eyelid surgery, doctors usually recommend two main techniques depending on the condition of each person's eyelids.

1. Double eyelid surgery using the "mini incision" method.

It involves making a very small incision (approximately 3-5 millimeters) in the center of the eyelid to create a new eyelid crease.

  • Advantages: Very small, almost invisible incision; minimal swelling and bruising; very fast recovery (starts to settle in 3-5 days); no stitches needed in some cases.

  • Disadvantages: It cannot remove much excess fat or sagging eyelids, so it is not suitable for older individuals or those with very puffy eyes.

2. Double eyelid surgery using the "full incision" or "long incision" method.

It involves making an incision along the desired eyelid crease, from the inner corner to the outer corner of the eye.

  • Advantages: Allows for the reshaping of eyelid fat and the complete removal of excess eyelid skin. Excellent for correcting drooping or sad-looking eyes. The results are long-lasting and create clearly defined eyelids.

  • Disadvantages: The incision is longer than the short incision method, requiring a slightly longer recovery period (approximately 1-2 weeks), and there will be a scar along the eyelid crease initially.

To ensure the surgery goes as smoothly as possible, please prepare as follows:

  1. Avoid medications and supplements: Stop taking Vitamin E, fish oil, and aspirin/ibuprofen for at least 2 weeks (to prevent difficulty in clotting blood).

  2. Avoid smoking and alcohol for at least one week to allow the wound to heal properly.

  3. Inform us about any drug allergies, especially to anesthetics or antibiotics.

  4. Prepare your sunglasses: To wear home to protect yourself from dust and sunlight after surgery.

Post-operative care: Tips for perfect eyes quickly.

  1. Cold compresses are key: In the first 48 hours, apply cold compresses frequently to reduce swelling.

  2. Sleeping with your head elevated on a pillow can help reduce swelling faster during the first 3-5 days.

  3. Maintain cleanliness: Gently wipe away blood or dirt from the wound using a cotton swab moistened with saline solution.

  4. Avoid eye makeup: Refrain from applying eyeliner or wearing contact lenses for about 1-2 weeks, or until the wound is completely healed.

  5. Avoid trigger foods: Refrain from fermented foods, seafood, and alcohol for the first month.
